My first call was kn6kcp in 53. let it lapse and picked up a tech in 58 or so and was licensed off and on till 73 and been licensed ever since. My current call, and for the last 20 years or so, is KE0ZU.

My father built my first transmitter on a wood chassis with honeycomb coils using a 6L6. Wish I had it today. Currently I have several BAs mostly National, but some hammarlund and gonset as well. Oh and a BC 348 I went through in the mid 70s, still works but only has about 25 hours since then.

I also collect mainly tektronix and HP test equipment under the guise of refurbishing old car radios. I'm only about six grand in the red right now, but I'm slowly gainin on it. Wink Wink Wink

Happy to say...I'll be taking my Technician test this Saturday. I've been scoring high 90's and 100's on the Internet sample tests. I may even be ready for the General test as I've been getting high scores for that ticket too. Who says ya can't teach an old dog new tricks?

i am k5psh--name is jerry--qth central texas--received my novice in 1958(just turned 14 years old)--been continuously licensed since that time--work CW exclusively these days --guess i always have, come to think of it<grin>

i was a CW intercept op for Uncle Sam, serving throughout asia during the mid to late '60s--not a bad job for a young ham--(it did often become "trying" to the patience and soul<grin>)--

Hey, another 'XX'. I was formerly WB4SXX and thats where I got stuck with the 'exray' handle. Sitting in DX pileups shouting 'x-ray, x-ray' over and over again Smile Am now WX4A so the 'exray' still fits.

I've been studying the basic manual and doing the test questions and I feel I've been doing abt 90% so far. No cheating , I've been a elex tech since '62. However, I now use a calculator to figure metric conversions for such as wavlength. vs freq. I used to do this long math ( on paper ) and it was a headache. The book I'm using is " ARRL Ham Radio License Manual ". Level 1. ( 2006-2007 ). OT

After I got my novice and tech, I upgraded to general, Advanced, and Extra within the next year. I am a CW fan (love 40 meters) and also really like 160 meters for CW and even phone occasionally. I am the trustee (and repair) of a multi-link, multi-band repeater in the greater NY, NJ, and PA area.
A very good friend (now a silent key) and I learned CW but hooking code keys to our CB radios and sending on AM while the other guy would copy on SSB. I had a very difficult time with CW and could be seen, every day, with headphones, listening to Gordon West.
I've tried dozens of HF antennas, and love to experiment.
