Can anybody help me find this record?

Post by Bill Cahill on Mon Apr 28, 2008 2:39 am

I've been looking for this 78 rpm 10" children's record on un known label for over 40 years. Anybody got one you'll get rid of?
"I am a fine musician"
Recorded in the late 40's to mid 50's.
Please pm me if you do, and, will get rid of it. Many thanks.

There are a few places that have it available but maybe not on a 78 on the web.

I Am a Fine Musician-Children's Song

I am a fine musician,
I practice every day,
And people come from miles around,
Just to hear me play.
My trumpet, my trumpet,
They love to hear my trumpet.
Ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-a-a!

I am a fine musician,
And I get lots of pay,
But when I play my tuba,
People throw money my way.
My tuba, my tuba,
They love to hear my tuba.
Oom-pa, oom-pa oom-pa oom-pa, omp-pa, omp-pa, oom-pa-oom
Ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-a-a!

I am a fine musician,
My music is so gay,
And everybody dances,
When they hear me play,
My trombone, my trombone,
They love to hear my trombone.
Dah, daah, da-da-daah, da-da-da-da-da-da-daaah
Oom-pa, oom-pa oom-pa oom-pa, omp-pa, omp-pa, oom-pa-oom
Ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-a-a!

I am a fine musician,
That's what the people say,
And all the children follow me,
When they hear me play,
My piccolo, my piccolo,
They love to hear my piccolo.
Deedle-ee dee dee,
Deedle-ee dee dee,
Deedle deedle dee-dee deedle-deedle dee
Dah, daah, da-da-daah, da-da-da-da-da-da-daaah
Oom-pa, oom-pa oom-pa oom-pa, omp-pa, omp-pa, oom-pa-oom
Ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-a-a!

We all are fine musicians,
We practice every day,
And if you'd like to join us,
We'll show you the way.
Come join us. Come join us.
Come take a part and join us
Ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-tada-ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-a-a
Oom-pa, oom-pa oom-pa oom-pa, omp-pa, omp-pa, oom-pa-oom
Dah, daah, da-da-daah, da-da-da-da-da-da-daaah
Deedle-ee dee dee, Deedle deedle dee-dee deedle-deedle dee
Dee deedle deedle dee!

Thanks, but, I wnat original 78. It's different.
I have it by Sally Field on lp, recorded in 1967. Close to original, so, they might have had an original to go by.

Yes. I've visited a number of record sites, and, talked with several rare record collectors. I have a friend I work with at volunteer office. Her son is a proffessional collector, and, author about records, and, recordings. He does articles for some large papers. He has a large collection of ways to find rare records. He couldn't even find which company did the pressing.
At first, he thought I was wrong, then, like me, he found evidence that the record was indeed made, but, he still can't find it, or, even the company that pressed it.... Surprised
I'm beginning to think I'll never find the record... Sad
I've found several people that have said their grade school had a 78 of that record, but, in all cases, the record was destroyed by the school when they were finnished with it..

Just a thought :
The Smithsonian, and sometimes Libraries have records or tapes that can be used through inter-loan library, ask a local public librarian.
