This is my first post at this forum. I have recently acquired my first BA, a R-392. It needs a few new tubes and a new BNC connector on the cable that connects the tuning cap for the BFO to the AF chassis(it needs all 5 of the 12AU7s replaced, all 2 of the 26C6s replaced, and a 26A6). When I bought the R-392 it also came with a LS-166 and a homebrew power supply.

Here are some pics

Now that we are starting to see the occasional sunspot and the propagation is picking up a little, I have starting looking at this site again. I heard a KH6 last night on 20 meters at about s7. And last weekend I heard lots of east coast activity on 10 meters. It brought back memories of my ham days in the 70s when we were near a cycle maximum. ...

Anybody do any longwave listening in the summer? I have tried but I can't handle the noise levels. Looking for tips on how to get around it. The only thing that has come to mind is a Beverage antenna but I don't have room for one. I have a big old roll of wire and I thought about making a dxpedition up to the mountains (because its too bloody hot down on the plains) to try a Beverage.

I just got my license a few days ago. As I eagerly await my new call sign to be posted on the FCC data base, I'm in search of a radio, preferably a mobile unit, that will allow me HF as well as VHF. I passed my General exam, so exploring the lower bands would be a plus. My mobile unit should be able to double as my temporary home unit for now, as I am budget minded these days. I'm thinking 50-60 watts. What sort of application? Well... for now, local and regional contacts within the 48's. I realize ...

This on is the shortest and is marked RCA Transformer, DWG - 114216, Spec - 4243

This taller one is marked DWG - 112072 Spec - 5287

But with only two terminals I would call them a choke.

Any help would be great Thanks

Hi Everyone,

While working on a Collins 1955 contract set ( I believe), I had the problem of a few bands being dead. Swapping out the crystals showed that the 9.0 and 11.5 mc crystals were dead.

I looked at the crystals closely and it looked like they were soldered around the base of their covers. I decided to go ahead and open them up and see if it was a bad solder joint or something.

I used a small butane hand torch for this and it worked out great at loosening the base from the cover. ...
