I have an original Western Auto Truetone Stereo Phonograph. My parents bought this new for me as a little girl. I have looked everywhere for info on this, but found nothing but the user manuals, which I have. Does anyone know if this is worth anything as a collectors item? I have not tried to see if it still works, but it's in imaculate condition, still with stickers and tags. I used it when I was a teen ager in the early 70's. Hate to give it to Goodwill without asking. Thanks for any ...

I haven't posted a new thread here in awhile, and Bill Cahill wants me to be more active in the forum. So, here goes, my collection of RCA multi-speed New Orthophonic high fidelity phonographs.

My 7-HF-5 consolette, which I believe was made in 1956. This one was in beautiful near-mint condition when I received it, and about all I had to do to it was to recap the three tube amplifier.

I got this RCA HFP New Orthophonic on eBay for $20, plus shipping. I have since repainted ...

This morning I received my order of RCA changer cones from Renovated Radios in Michigan. Wow, they look fantastic. I'm glad someone is finally making these cones, since most of them in the RP-190 RCA changers are either deteriorated or beginning to deteriorate. These flexible cones support the changer mechanism inside the cabinet. They are stiff enough to support the weight, yet flexible enough to still reduce vibrations that can be transmitted to the pickup.

I repaired and recapped it and refinished the cabinet. The radio works quite well and the motor seems good also. It had no needle in it when I got it. I went to EVERY site I could find in an effort to get one. Most sites want you to enter the number of the existing one. Obviously I can't do that since It's missing.
A couple of weeks back I rescued this little gem at the Orlando antique phonograph show.

The story goes that the dealer I bought it from recently purchased it from a lady. She said her husband found it in the barn recently. He thought it was just an old piece of junk, and, proceeded to start smashing it to bits.

When she found him, he had destroyed the lid, and, was starting on the machine.

She saw that he was destoying something important, and, stopped him.

Back in the 50s, teenagers would carry around their 45s in a colorful aftermarket Disk-go-Case. I have two of them in turquoise and hot yellow. I like them because they eliminate the necessity of returning the 45s to their paper sleeves after they are played, and they also keep dust and dirt off the records. Other colors are available, such as hot pink, and there's even a Beatles version that is quite collectable.

I've made an amazing discovery. Yesterday, I removed Bosco's cartridge from my 45EY4 and replaced it with an Astatic 89T power point cartridge. The result is simply amazing... you can crank up the 45EY4 to around 70 percent volume level with no distortion and amazing bass and treble. Having listened to my three best RCA 45 players on a rotating basis this weekend, I can tell you the 45EY4 is clearly the best, and I think it's because the set uses the older GT tubes, and a pair of 35L6GT tubes, ...

This makes an inexpensive and great stand to work on an RP-190 changer to make all the necessary adjustments with the changer out of the case. Just replace the three mounting screws with three machine screws three inches in length that are available from your local hardware store. I took one of the original screws with me to Lowe's to get three screws with the same thread. I think I paid $1 for the three screws. They work great for servicing these changers.

Can't play German made LP

This is a shot in the dark but does anyone who collects records( Such as Bill Cahill) know why an LP from the 70's of Gordon Lightfoot made in Germany will not play here in the US? It looks perfect but the needle just skips over it. Could it be that in europe they use a finer tipped needle? Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
