Crosley model 515 low volume
I recently picked up a half way decent Crosley fiver model 515. The field coil checked open, so I pulled the paper away to find very corroded connections. I cut those, unwound 1 turn from each end of the coil and soldered it to 2 new peices of wire. I checked the coil again and it checked at 3k, is this correct? It seems a little high.
The Radio picks up some signal, not very loudly nor clearly. It sounds distorted. Not bad paper cap distorted, more like it is in the speaker.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Crosley model 515 low volume
Ok, just found that the transformer was getting very hot very fast. I thought I would try to finnish trouble shooting tomorrow when I grabbed in by the electrolytic can. It was really hot. The rectifier tube is not even close the can. The electrolyics are shorted.
I replaced them both with 33 mfds and the radio now plays at full volume and sounds great.
