Looky what was hid in my closet for years.

Post by Bill Cahill on Sat May 16, 2009 12:26 am

This neat Zenith transoceanic H-500. I like the dial on this set.
I will be restoring it in the future.

Here's the back of the set.

That do you think?

The transoceanic series of radios are beautiful. They are portable, but have the classy look of an expensive console. Your's looks darn good. A nice closet "find".

Great find Bill! If that is any indication of what can be found in your closets, I'll come help you clean them all out any time!

These sets are super-hot right now. I recall having 2-3 of these sets. Bought them for $10-$15 apiece. Now it seems like they command $150-$200 now.

Looks great Bill. I love how the gold chassis on T.O.s usually need little heavy duty cleaning. Even your knob brights look nice.

I have one of these also. They're nice playing and performing radio's. I have one the older 8G series TO's also. Nice quality built units. They just have that nice solid "feel" to them. Its hard to believe that they got so much fidelity out of the small speakers these have. This is one series of radio's i dont mind having duplicates of. I think everyone should have at least one TO in their collection.

I have to admit the case isn't mint, and, I may have polished the latch too much. It was badly coroded. Case has some wear, and, tear. It's not minty.
I will be re building it, however. I've been wanting one for awhile.

Gee Bill You and I must be twins (sort of-LOL)
I went to a local ND hand store and just purchased the same model. But I paid $40 for mine Crying or Very sad

I will eventually get to it . Mine needs some small cabinet repairs (wood putty to fill in the missing edges) the top of the antenna is missing, but it has the wave magnet antenna. The front is all there and no cracked buttons, but I will have to locate a knob for either the volume or tunning (I fer-get which right now.) Embarassed

Whom ever had it before me musta known about the 1L6-1R5 sub. cause thats its case, substituted I mean. Drats!

1L6 Tubes occasionally come up on ebay. A bit pricey, but, hey....
I paid 25.00 for my nos Sylvania.
